TYRE MARKS ON
YOUR DRIVEWAY?

Black tyre marks on concrete driveways are caused by hot rubber compound bonding to concrete in Queensland heat. Standard pressure washing won't remove them — the right chemical treatment will.

Black tyre marks on concrete driveways are an extremely common problem across Queensland — directly related to the state's climate. In Queensland's heat, especially during summer, tyre rubber compounds soften and are more prone to depositing rubber residue on concrete during hard braking, tight turning and parking. These rubber deposits bond chemically to the concrete surface and resist standard pressure washing — the rubber compound needs a solvent or alkaline degreaser to break it down before cleaning. Tyre marks are particularly visible on new concrete driveways, light-coloured exposed aggregate and freshly sealed concrete. Burnett 2 Bay removes tyre marks from driveways across Redlands, Brisbane, Logan, Ipswich, Gold Coast and all of South East Queensland.

Why Tyre Marks Are Hard to Remove

Tyre rubber is a polymer compound that bonds to porous concrete under heat and pressure. When a car brakes hard or parks on a hot Queensland driveway, the softened rubber transfers from the tyre to the concrete. This rubber deposit is chemically bonded — not surface-level dirt — which is why pressure washing alone doesn't remove it.

Queensland Heat Makes It Worse

Tyre rubber softening point is significantly lower in Queensland's summer heat. Hot summers mean tyre rubber is softer and more transfer-prone than in cooler climates, particularly on black driveways that reach significantly higher surface temperatures than ambient air.

Treatment Method

We use a solvent or alkaline degreaser pre-treatment that breaks down rubber polymer bonds on the concrete surface, followed by appropriate pressure cleaning to remove the loosened rubber compound.

Combined Driveway Clean

Tyre mark removal is best combined with a full driveway pressure clean — addressing the marks in the context of a complete clean produces a more uniform result than spot treatment alone.

Common Questions

Can tyre marks be removed from concrete driveways?

Yes — with appropriate degreaser or solvent pre-treatment followed by pressure cleaning. Fresh marks respond better than long-established ones.

Why won't pressure washing remove tyre marks?

Tyre rubber is chemically bonded to concrete and requires a degreaser or solvent to break down the polymer bonds before it can be cleaned away.
